31/08/2009 - Driver is bowing out after 32 years service

Joe Dobbie has hung up his truck keys

Joe, 64 has been driving for Thompson Buildings Centres for 32 years and has worked for 3 generations of the family.

He was the first driver employed by Thompson's builders' merchants division, intially working with company founder Albie Thompson, then current managing director Anne Ganely and her son Brent, who is Thompson's operations director.

"They have been a fantastic company to work for - and Anne really has been the best boss you could have," said Joe.

"In the early days Anne and I worked together because the company was much smaller then and she'd be sorting out the orders and I'd be taking them out."

"Then the company just started to fly and I've watched it get bigger and bigger over the years.'

Although Joe will be officially leaving Thompson's, he said that they have not seen the last of him.

Brent said Joe had been a valued employee for more than 3 decades.

"He's been a really hard working and dedicated member of staff who has been with us through many changes and seen the company grow," said Brent. "He'll be really missed."
